Got Milk?

I helped Hannah do a little video editing and some photos for a contest she was entering. She made the final 27. Here's what the contest is about:

BENTON
TEEN IN RUNNING TO BECOME ONE OF “THE 9” NEXT MILK MUSTACHE STARS
Julianne Hough Selects BRYANT HIGH SCHOOL Student HANNAH SELLERS as Semi-Finalist in got milk? Campaign’s Search for “The 9”

NEW YORK (March 31, 2011) – Looking and feeling your best can inspire confidence and empower you to achieve your goals. That’s the message Julianne Hough has been spreading to teen girls across America. The actress, dancer and singer partnered with the National Milk Mustache “got milk?”® Campaign and Seventeen magazine to launch “The Power of 9” – a program that celebrates the power of milk’s nine essential nutrients and shows teens that making good food choices and drinking lowfat or fat free milk can help them look lean and strong on the outside and feel confident and strong on the inside.
In February, Julianne unveiled her own Milk Mustache ad and launched the search for The 9 – an elite group of teen girls who will become the next Milk Mustache stars, serve as milk ambassadors and have a chance to make a positive impact on their peers across the country throughout 2011.
Hundreds of teens from around the country submitted videos showing how milk helps them be their best and that they have what it takes to be the next Milk Mustache star. Julianne, plus a panel of judges, have selected the top 27 entries from among hundreds of entries across the country. Now, BENTON teen HANNAH SELLERS has a shot at starring in a national Milk Mustache ad to appear in the pages of Seventeen magazine this fall.

Reach for the Stars – HANNAH SELLERS Could Be One of The Next Milk Mustache Celebs!
Teens across the country have an opportunity to get their voices heard and make Milk Mustache campaign history by casting their votes for The 9 at www.myyearbook.com/powerof9.
If chosen, HANNAH SELLERS and the other eight winning girls will get to experience what it’s really like to be a Milk Mustache celebrity – just like Julianne Hough. They’ll be flown to a photo shoot where they’ll meet other winners from across the country before posing together for a Milk Mustache ad, to be featured as a special two-page spread in the pages of Seventeen magazine this fall. Then this elite group of nine girls will continue to make a positive impact on other teens throughout the year via their own Power of 9 blog on seventeen.com and Facebook.com/BodyByMilk. They’ll also have the chance to experience other milk “insider” opportunities, such as interviewing upcoming Milk Mustache celebrities and attending other “VIP” milk events.

If you could go watch her video and vote for her (once a day would be great), you could really help make this happen for her!

Thanks!

Still learning.....I am

It's been a while since I've posted regularly. A LOT has been going on in the Burkhead household.

Today, I wanted to hit a little on where/who I get my inspiration from (besides my wife and kids ;) ) and post some of my recent work.

Let's start with the several blogs/websites that I follow regularly.

Phat Baby Photography, is another family guy, similar to me. Phat Baby Photography specializes in newborn photos, baby photography and family portraits in the greater San Francisco Bay Area. His style of writing is really down to earth and easy to read/relate to. Many of his posts tend to make me think about things from a different perspective. Also, his images are amazing.

Big Ben, at BTS Photography, is another fellow photographer I follow. His style is awesome and very defined. Go check out his blog and photos.

Marshall, over at f/11, is another father/photographer. His techniques and explanations of them, are worth the read.

Brooke, at PhotoBrooke Creations, is a family friend and professional photographer. We just finished construction of the addition to their house which includes her new studio. VERY nice and looks like it will be an AWESOME place to work.

There a several others that I follow. 2 of which are Don Giannatti & David Hobby.

Don is whom I personally spoke to regarding the specifications of MY studio...when we were going to build one. He's a GREAT instructor. Definitely one of the workshops I'll be taking sometime. I've learned so much from him, his writings and his photographs. Just a great guy!

David is the undisputed Off-camera strobe GURU. Through his posts on his blog and the corresponding Flickr forum, LOTS of information and inspiration have been acquired, and built upon.

All of these photographers have something in common...besides their respective blogs. They all have a STYLE to their writing and the photography. THAT is what I want to work toward. I've taken, literally, millions of photos since I started photography in 1986. One thing I think I'm lacking is a "style". At least one that I can see. :)  So, enjoy the journey with me as I try to find that "style" that fits me.

Oh yeah, here are some of my recent works:

It seems that Blogger and Flickr has changed the way we post photos in the blogs. Or, maybe, I just forgot how...it HAS been a while since my last post.

I hope to keep this a little more current for you guys following.

Broke my Nikon 18-105 VR lens

Well, it was bound to happen....I left my camera bag sitting on the studio stool after a photo session last Sunday. One of the little kids (my kids :( ) knocked it off of the stool and WHAM!!!  The lens was snapped off the camera body. For those of you that aren't familiar with Nikon lenses, this is one that has a plastic mount.

This lens is the lens I use 90% of the time, so it was quite a disappointment to have it out of commission.

After doing some research, I ran across GMTruckHQ, which had a well written HOW-TO on replacing this piece. So, after ordering the correct part (# IC999-729-1) for mine, it's fixed!

Here's a few shots of my lens (GMTruckHQ has great pics)

More Senior Pictures

Same models, Jordan and Hannah. Actually, these aren't so much Senior Pictures as they are simply profile shots for thier social networking sites. So, I decided to have a little fun and do some "fashion" type shots.

Jordan & Hannah -- Senior (and Junior) Pictures

Today we took Senior pictures of Jordan (he has to send graduation invitations out this week). Of course, his little sister, Hannah, came along, as well. She's needing/wanting some new pictures, too. So...off we went.

Melissa had stumbled upon an old truck sitting in front of a pond, just off the road, so went there and shot a few. Then, it was off to a couple of other places.

It's easy to see that I'll be shooting more of Hannah and possible Jordan. Both were very easy to work with.

My boys (and Melissa) got into the shots, too :)

Here's a sneak peek:

ENJOY!
